Bishop at 100

We'd like to share some photographs by Lawrence Schwartzwald from the thrilling centenary birthday bash in Elizabeth Bishop's honor, which was held on her actual birthday, February 8th, in the Great Hall at Cooper Union. Thanks to the many literary organizations who joined forces with us to present this event, we had an audience of nine hundred and seventy, standing room only in that great room. We are grateful to the Academy of American Poets, Farrar, Straus & Giroux, the National Book Foundation, Poets House, and the Unterberg Poetry Center, of the 92nd Street Y.

Thank you for this--I didn't know of Elizabeth Bishop, when she was alive, and, only in the past few years, have come to read and love her poetry.

Awesome reception I bet Miss Bishop would be most pleased,
and most honored.
