Dear Friend,

As the President of the Board of Governors of the Poetry Society of America, our nation's oldest organization devoted to the art, I want to thank you for being a part of our family this year and, for many of you, many years past, as well.

I think you'll agree that 2017 was no ordinary year. We were pleased to mark the 25th anniversary of our beloved signature initiative, Poetry in Motion, which presents poems on subways and buses in New York and other cities across America.

This year we also collaborated with Nicholas Kristof of the New York Times on a poetry contest in response to our current political climate. Alice Quinn, our Executive Director, read over 2,700 poems submitted to the contest, and Mr. Kristof presented six poems in his column.

In a very different kind of collaboration, we launched two new partnerships: with Blue Bottle Coffee, poems now accompany the fulfillment of coffee subscriptions; and with the Ace Hotel, our PSA chapbooks available in select hotel rooms.

Continuing our free, public programs, we produced over 40 around the country.

We launched four new voices in the 14th year of our award winning Chapbook Fellowship Program and celebrated  the 5th year of our very successful Visiting Poets Program at Harlem Academy.

And I hope that you heard about our Benefit last Spring where we honored Jacqueline Woodson at the New York Botanical Garden under their dazzling lights. As we have in the past, we presented Poetry Walks in conjunction which each of their seasonal exhibits.

And so much more.

We couldn't have done any of this without you.

As a special gift to those of you who support us today, we are offering the new anniversary anthology, The Best of Poetry in Motion: Celebrating 25 Years in Subways and Buses, for a gift of $75 or more.

Thank you so much for your love of poetry! I extend holiday greetings and a happy new year to you,

Kimiko Hahn

Board of Governors
